The Green MacGyver Eco-friendly Crafts - Blue Jean Notebook

By The Ecolectual

An eco-friendly craft can be a fun way for kids to express their creativity and de-stress after a long week at school.  What better way than to decorate their notebooks using an old pair of jeans? Everyone has old jeans lying around, that didn’t quite make it into shorts but even if they did you can use those too. This is a cute and creative craft that is functional and fun. An eco-friendly craft like this one will also be a great activity over the winter break to keep the kids occupied. Always remember that eco friendly crafts, like this one, which require ripping seems, or cutting through tough fabric require adult help not just supervision.

  • 1 pair of old jeans
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun or strong glue
  • 1 or 2 notebooks
  • Glitter
  • Craft glue
  • Stickers and decorative odds and ends or even crack out the Be-dazzler

What to do:

  • Remove the back pockets from the jeans in one piece (this should be done by an adult)
  • Flip the pocket over so that you are looking at what used to be the front inside of the pocket
  • Place a thin line of glue along the bottom edges and sides of the pocket but do not put the glue on the top
  • Decide where you want the pocket, flip it over and stick down
  • Then turn it over to the kids and let them run wild decorating it with their creativity - stickers, feathers, jewels or any other craft bits they have.

Note one pair of jeans will make two notebooks. You could even glue denim fabric to the front the notebook cover before you attach the pocket, so that you will have an entire denim journal. An eco-friendly craft like this one are also practical as your kids can fill the pocket with school supplies like pens, pencils, markers and rulers. Thus this notebook will be both functional and stylish.

Beyond that, an eco-friendly craft can make a wonderful, personal holiday gift. What a cute add-on to a gift for a cousin or friend - something stylish, personalized for them made by you. This is eco-friendly because you are repurposing an old worn out pair of jeans and children are using the odd bits that they have left over from other craft projects. Have fun.
