The Green MacGyver Eco Crafts for Kids - Plastic Jug Watering Can
Kids will enjoy this eco friendly craft as they make their own watering can for use in your garden or for your plants. And it’s as simple as reusing a plastic jug! With a little help from you, your child can make their own watering can while you encourage their creativity and nourish your garden.
What you’ll need:
- ½ gallon plastic milk or juice jug with handle and lid
- Small finishing nail or screw
- Hammer
- Stickers or Paint to decorate
How to make this eco friendly craft:
- Wash out a plastic milk or juice jug.
- Get your child to look through their supply of stickers to choose from or paints they may like to use to decorate their water jug.
- An adult should use the tip of a finishing nail or screw and a hammer to gently poke watering holes in the lid of the jug.
- Start decorating with stickers you have in the house. Or you can paint the jug or glue on yarn. Although the decorations may fade over time, the watering jug will always be functional and reusable. Plus, your child can redecorate it any time!
- Fill the jug with water and put lid back on.
- Demonstrate to your child how to hold the jug with the handle and start watering the garden or those thirsty plants.
Tips:
- If the decorations wear off, don’t worry, this gives your child the opportunity to redecorate with new accessories.
- If children are old enough to understand not to drink from the jug, feel free to add some plant food to the water according to instructions.
- Make the jug accessible by storing it on a low shelf so your l’il helper can reach it anytime the garden or plants need a drink.
And that’s it, it’s both easy and fun for children. Plus, you reuse an everyday household item and turn it into an entertaining eco friendly craft for kids while getting them to help feed your garden and plants.
