Here is a two in one eco friendly children’s craft that is a great way to keep kids busy and let them use their imagination all at the same time.  It uses juice/milk cartons that would otherwise wind up in landfills.  This simple and quick eco friendly craft converts that empty carton into a self-designed sail boat.   They are sure to prove a favorite of yours as it requires simple materials, easy instructions and allows for the child to use their imagination for their own embellishment.  They’re also very quick to make so it get them playing very soon.

Stuff you need:

  1. Empty milk/juice carton
  2. Scrap construction paper or fabric
  3. Markers/paint/stickers
  4. Glue/Craft Tack/Craft Clay Adhesion/Double-sided tape
  5. Scissors
  6. Thin straws or long sticks

What to do:

  1. Wash and dry milk/juice carton
  2. Cut the side off the milk/juice carton
  3. Cut two squares of paper or fabric to use as sails (you can also cut a little triangle to use as a flag for the top)
  4. Put a small hole in the middle of the sails near the top and bottom of the square (big enough for the straw or stick to fit)
  5. Decorate the sails however you like using markers, paint or stickers
  6. Put the straw/stick through both holes in both sails
  7. Push the straw/stick into a dollop of glue, craft tack, craft clay or adhere with double-sided tape and stick to bottom of carton

There you have it.  An instant sail boat that your kids can feel proud of.  Encourage them to really explore their imagination with the sails.  Make them any size, shape or colour they prefer.

Eco friendly crafts that reuse materials that would normally be recycled or thrown away teaches kids to think before they toss something.  Sometimes things can be used for other purpose – just need a little ingenuity.  As always, you also have to fun with your eco friendly crafts.
