No, you are not actually eating compost, but rather this is an eco-friendly clean the pantry out delicious cookie. I’m referring to Momofuku Milk Bar’s famous Compost Cookies that were featured on Live with Regis and Kelly during their ‘Inside the Chef’s Kitchen Chocolate Challenge’ for Valentines Day. Kelly Ripa said “If this cookie was a person it would be George Clooney because it has it all;” as this cookie is the perfect combination of salty and sweet and is a great treat to make to show the people in your life how much you care.
It’s called the Compost Cookie because the chefs at Momofuku Milk Bar kept running out of ingredients, thus this is a cookie made out of all the odds and ends they had at the bakery. It is an eco-friendly, easy and delicious cookie to make at home, that never tastes that same twice. So here is an eco-friendly way to deal with the last few chips in the bag or pieces of chocolate you have lying around.

Padma Lakshmi wears an eco-friendly scent all her own. What do we know about her?
- Once married to Salmon Rushdie (now divorced)
- Host of Top Chef
- Foodie cookbook author
- Former model
- Pregnant (she is mum on the baby-daddy details)
- Has a large scar as a result of a car accident
- Makes her own perfume
Yes, that’s right, I said makes her own perfume. The beautiful and multitalented Padma mixes her own fragrances. Now why would a wealthy woman, who seemingly could have any fragrance she desired choose to mix her own perfume? The reason is simple; she enjoys mixing the organic essential oils she purchases online into a fragrance that suits her mood.
Padma shared this little secret when Kelly Ripa complimented her on her scent during an interview on Live with Regis and Kelly. Padma is not selling her perfume (yet although this may be an endeavor she will delve into in the future) but obliviously her creativity was enough for Kelly to take notice. She made it seem so simple…perhaps this is something we should all try.
First it is imperative that you get an eco-friendly, high quality, organic essential oil (you can order them online too). Prior to ordering you need to identify the scents you like, and then buy them. Purchase some empty bottles, either with an atomizer on it or simply something with a lid – cut glass is not recommended as they attract light and that is not good for the scent inside. Once you receive the oils pour some (not all) of the scents in the jar. Play with the scents and have fun. You can try to emulate the notes of your favorite perfumes to come up with something that is essentially and uniquely you. This is an eco-friendly economical solution, as you are not paying for packaging and marketing. This is an eco-friendly option from commercial perfumes as it would cut down packaging as you will not have the plastic and other elements of pretty packaging that come will boutique perfumes; but the cardboard boxes that your purchases will come in can be easily recycled.
By mixing your own perfume you are also limiting the additives and chemicals in the mixture. Here is a recipe for a Citrus Blooms Body Splash recipe courtesy of pioneerthinking.com:

Ok I think it’s official. An eco friendly garden is now cool amongst the rich and famous! It seems that gardening is becoming the hot new pastime of ecofriendly living and in New York no less where real estate is at a premium. Now I doubt it will surpass shopping in Soho, clubbing or escaping to the Hamptons for a weekend but it is refreshing to see that it’s gaining popularity.
Kelly Ripa of the daytime talk show, Live with Regis and Kelly, shared that she and hubby Mark Consuelos have a terrace vegetable garden. Apparently hidden amongst Mr. Consuelos’ talents is quite the green thumb as he is the primary caregiver of the eco friendly garden in their household. You might be wondering why should we care if the Consuelos’ have embraced gardening or ecofriendly living? Well, it is two-fold. First, they have kids and now their kids will experience and appreciate the process of harvesting their own produce. I think that when kids are involved in cooking or growing their own food, they are going to be more willing to try different things plus more apt to carry on the tradition. Secondly, Kelly has a daily forum with which she is now using to talk about her garden and relay it’s progress throughout the summer. It just may spark a few of her viewers/fans to pick up a spade of their own because ecofriendly living can be cool.
