eco-friendly trade show giveaways: co-brand a logo on a stainless steel bottle

Did you ever go to a trade show booth and receive a pen or foamy stress ball branded with the company name you visited?  If you really want to attract people to your booth, flex your corporate responsibility muscles with eco-friendly trade show giveaways as opposed to the more traditional fare.

I’m talking about stainless steel bottles, reusable bags, or even a t-shirt made with organic cotton – all of which can still have your company logo on it.  Whatever your budget is, there is an eco-friendly alternative.  It’s still  a cost-effective trade show giveaway, but it’s also beneficial to the environment.  Typically, trade show exhibitors go to a promotional products company who prints their logo on a mug, pen, keychain or some other trinket.  Blah.

I’ve attended numerous trade shows myself and I can say definitively that the best response we got from customers occurred this year when we gave away stainless steel bottles at our booth.  People flocked to our booth, literally line ups and crowds, and we were the talk of the show because our booth was constantly packed with visitors.  Why was the bottle so popular?  Well, three reasons.  First, because a stainless steel bottle is practical – it’s something people could actually use every day.  Second, because it’s environmentally friendly and a sustainable substitute for single use plastic bottles.  And third, because of the quality of the giveaway, it’s 100% stainless steel as opposed to aluminum and it just looked classy in comparison to the pens or mugs other booths were offering.  Now you can help minimize waste and plastic consumption while creating brand awareness.  The trade show was a tremendous success for us and we made many valuable connections.

waste-free-lunchesThis green tip of the week simply involves packing a waste-free lunch for your kids or for your day at work.  Did you know that the average American school-age child throws away 67 pounds of packaging a year?  This includes plastic water bottles, sandwich baggies, and juice boxes.  With the population of kids in the US alone accounting for over 70 million, that’s over 4.6 TRILLION pounds of packaging.

Here’s some other lunch waste facts courtesy of globalstewards.org:

Plastic Bottles:  U.S. citizens discard 2.5 million plastic bottles EVERY HOUR

Aluminum Foil:  More than 20 million Hershey’s kisses are wrapped with 133 square miles of foil every day

Aluminum and Tin Cans:  In the time it takes you to read this sentence, more than 50,000 12-oz. aluminum cans were made

Juice Boxes:  Most inorganic trash retains its weight, volume, and form for at least four decades

Paper Bags and Napkins:  It is estimated that 17 trees are cut down for every ton of non-recycled paper

Styrofoam:  U.S. citizens throw away 25 billion Styrofoam cups EVERY YEAR

It’s time to cut down on lunchtime environmental impact and pack waste-free lunches.  Here’s the uncomplicated part, it’s as easy as these 5 steps:

bottled-water-vs-tap-waterWhat will it take to educate consumers about ecofriendly living to the point of changing their habits? The reason I am asking is that of late I have noticed a virtual parade of shoppers carrying multiple cases of bottled water coming out of big box grocery and bulk stores.  What happened to the idea that ecofriendly living was taking off?  I thought, naively so perhaps, that change was upon us. What is troubling is that the quality of water in those bottles has recently been under cloud of suspicion, not to mention that the plastic leeches toxins. I can almost understand if there is something different in the bottle but plain water can easily be poured into a sustainable bottle.

We were a bottled water buying family once upon a time, but have since seen the light.  We take our Brita filtered water and fill our sustainable bottles, which has become a matter of habit.  Some may try to make the argument that the convenience outweighs the issues but this is not so.  A sustainable bottle can be just as convenient and you  are certain about the quality of the water.
