Electrolux CSR and Kelly Ripa Support Ovarian Cancer Research
Posted by: Planet Forward | Comments (0)Luxury appliance brand Electrolux has been demonstrating their sense of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by supporting ovarian cancer for the month of September. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and to help raise funds to combat this disease “Electrolux is donating two-hundred dollars to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund for every washer/dryer pair purchased.”
The $200 donation is not the only program that Electrolux is sponsoring this month. The brand’s spokesperson, talk show host Kelly Ripa, used her talk show Live with Regis and Kelly to announce that she was hosting a virtual sleepover party for Electrolux. For every person that attends the virtual sleepover on Facebook, Electrolux will donate one dollar to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The company has pledged a minimum donation of thirty thousand dollars to a maximum of thirty-five thousand dollars. Those wanting to participate in the virtual sleepover can go to the page daily until October 12th, 2011, and each time one dollar will be donated. When you join the sleepover there are games and tips about hosting a sleepover.
The tie in for Electrolux with the sleepover is the premise that it’s back to school season and thus children will be hosting sleepovers. In order to host a sleepover one needs clean sheets, pajamas etc…and only an Electrolux washer and dryer set is up to the task. Not to mention when one joins the sleepover they are entered into a draw to win a washer and dryer set.
“Electrolux and Kelly Ripa are proud to support Ovarian Cancer Research Fund whose mission is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for Ovarian Cancer. Electrolux has committed to donate $1 million to this worthy cause.”
This is a great way for Electrolux to be involved with this cause. Electrolux gets the publicity from having Ripa involved because of her ability to use her daily platform. Not to mention that they have come up with a fundraising event that highlights their products and allows potential customers to become familiar with the brand. This further elevates their brand amongst female consumers by demonstrating that they are committed to help find an early detection method for female cancers.
Anytime that a brand, especially a luxury brand, can garner good publicity and make a connection with consumers on a personal level, that is just good business. It’s nice to see a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative supporting such an important cause.

Compost never tasted this good – a surprising Valentines Day cookie
Posted by: The Ecolectual | Comments (0)No, you are not actually eating compost, but rather this is an eco-friendly clean the pantry out delicious cookie. I’m referring to Momofuku Milk Bar’s famous Compost Cookies that were featured on Live with Regis and Kelly during their ‘Inside the Chef’s Kitchen Chocolate Challenge’ for Valentines Day. Kelly Ripa said “If this cookie was a person it would be George Clooney because it has it all;” as this cookie is the perfect combination of salty and sweet and is a great treat to make to show the people in your life how much you care.
It’s called the Compost Cookie because the chefs at Momofuku Milk Bar kept running out of ingredients, thus this is a cookie made out of all the odds and ends they had at the bakery. It is an eco-friendly, easy and delicious cookie to make at home, that never tastes that same twice. So here is an eco-friendly way to deal with the last few chips in the bag or pieces of chocolate you have lying around.

There’s another Christmas countdown commercial reminding us of how many days remain!! Toys take over nearly every talk show/news program on TV as everyone wants to report on what this year’s top toys are. Live with Regis and Kelly, featured a segment about Disney Family Fun Magazine’s 18th Annual Toy of the Year Awards. Kelly Ripa and guest Co-host husband Mark Consuelos, were shown the top ten winners. FamilyFun’s “testers assessed quality, value, and the fun factor of more than 375 toys to create a list of 30 kid-and-parent-approved winners.”
So why am I blogging about toys? Well, an eco-friendly kid’s toy has not only made its way into the mix but also landed in the top 3! That’s right, both parents and kids deemed an eco-friendly kids toy both fun and a good buy. The toy in question is a Recycling Truck; it is 12-inchs-long and made from recycled plastic milk containers. It is made by Green Toys and is an eco-friendly kid’s toy for those 3-6 year olds and retails for $25.00 USD. This toy would appeal to it’s key demographic as 3-6 year olds are just becoming aware of recycling and want to help their parents sort. The cardboard box (also recycled, naturally) sports images of bottles, cans, and paper that parents can cut out for kids to sort and load into the truck’s slots, then cart away and dump in the nearest bin.
This is not just a fun eco-friendly kid’s toy but also one that is educational as it brings recycling into their playtime as well. That is not the only great selling point of this toy, all their toys are 100% made in California. “On average every pound of recycled milk jugs used in the making of green toys: saves energy equal to 3,000 AAA batteries. It also saves enough electricity to power a TV set for 3 whole weeks. Not to mention it saves enough electricity to keep a laptop computer running for a month.”
