Archive for Late Show With David Letterman

David Letterman has been known for making eco-friendly television, and we have blogged about it before, if you remember the in-depth look into his interview with former United States Vice President Al Gore. Knowing that The Late Show host has an interest in the environment, it is not surprising that one of his bits was about green tips.

david-lettermanThis foray into eco-friendly television was started when Letterman said that “everyone is concerned with the planet blowing up and we want to preserve life on this planet”. He then launched into The Late Show’s green tips, so here are possibly some of the funniest and worst tips ever:

  1. People leave grass clipping on their lawn as natural fertilizer. In Las Vegas they are paying people to pull out their lawns and replace it with a natural desert landscape because they don’t have enough water for people to water their lawns.
  2. Replace paper napkins with reusable cloth napkins.
  3. Buy food from local sources when possible.
  4. Breath fewer times per minute.
  5. Turn off the lights when you enter a room.
  6. Cut the electricity you use by purchasing a toaster powered by a wind turbine.
  7. Instead of a hot pockets switch to lukewarm pockets.
  8. Save $50.00 a year on your phone bill by speaking in a lower tone.
  9. Instead of using a fuel wasting lawn mower encourage your kids to graze.
  10. Reduce your carbon footprint by flying on the backs of large birds.
  11. Use cloth diapers rather than disposable diapers on your pet monkey.
  12. Instead of using bottled water carry a wet sponge.

david-lettermanLate night talk show host and comic, David Letterman has been put under siege of late but we want to focus on things that actually matter first.  Letterman, in addition to being a great talent is also somewhat of an eco-friendly television pioneer having made a commitment to producing eco-friendly television programming through his production company World Wide Pants.

World Wide Pants, which produces The Late Show with David Letterman, partnered last year with EcoMedia. Rob Burnett, president and CEO of Worldwide Pants said that they “are extremely excited to partner with EcoMedia and look forward to creating [eco-friendly television]/entertainment that will hopefully not only be funny, but will also move viewers toward better, more sustainable practices in everyday life”.  We commend Dave and World Wide Pants for their commitment to the planet.  We hope more production companies follow their lead.

Now I suppose we have to address the hype.  Unless you have been under a rock and that rock does not have wifi, you probably heard about the plot to extort two million dollars out of Letterman. David himself boldly broke the story, with his trademark wit and humor. Since then, the media have been circling everyone connected to World Wide Pants like vultures in the desert. Dave, ever-protective of is privacy has now overtaken fame-mongers Jon and Kate as the lead story on TV, newspapers, and the ever-important blogosphere. On top of that, the speculation and salacious insinuations have pulled news magazines like The Insider down to a new low.  If you saw The Insider’s Michel Jackson coverage, you’ll know that is saying something.
