Archive for Corporate Responsibility

As you many know October is breast cancer awareness month, and many companies are organizing different corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to show their support.  Yesterday, we blogged about what Hard Rock, Coach and Eggland’s Best are doing to help fundraise and increase breast cancer awareness.  Another company, Kruger Products, makers of items like of Cashmere, Purex, SpongeTowels and Scotties are also doing their part to help combat the disease.

Cashmere bathroom tissue designed a signature breast cancer logo embossed toilet paper called the Cashmere Pink roll, to help fundraise. “A fund-and-awareness-raiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, twenty-five cents from the sale of each package goes directly to the Foundation.” This means that consumers are able to help support the cause by making a slight change when purchasing a daily lifestyle staple, such as bathroom tissue.

However, that’s not their only corporate social responsibility initiative to help support the cause because they fundraise further with ‘vote couture for a cure’: “The White Cashmere Collection is the world’s first and only BT (bathroom tissue) couture collection. Starring top fashion luminaries from across [Canada], it is a celebration of the softest feeling next to your skin. The collection debuted in 2004 as a showcase for the brilliance of Canada’s fashion designers and their creations in sumptuous cashmere fabric. Now an eagerly-anticipated annual event, the international award-winning collection progressed to Cashmere BT as its fabric after the first two years.”

These unique designs can be viewed at vote couture for the cure.  For every person that votes on one the designs, Cashmere will donate one dollar to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The designs are innovative and mesmerizing; most have a touch of pink and all are made from bathroom tissue. The select looks from the collection were even showcased on an episode of CityLine with Tracy Moore. Once the event is over, the dresses will be on display at the Bay store on Bloor St. as well as the location on Bay St. in Toronto and a location in Montreal.

This is a two-fold “fund-and-awareness-raiser” where consumers can either support the cause by buying the Cashmere bathroom tissue product or by simply going online and voting for your favourite look in the 2011 White Cashmere Couture collection.  It’s a great example of corporate social responsibility, by going to great lengths to help support a vital cause.  Yes, they do get some positive press and promote purchasing their bathroom tissue, but they are also donating one dollar just for you to ‘vote couture for a cure’, which is just a click and costs you nothing.  Plus the designs are really cool, especially when you remember the fact that these designs are made from bathroom tissue.  In the end, increased awareness and fundraising for breast cancer research by Cashmere is a great CSR program that we hope helps bring them one step closer to finding a cure.

Luxury appliance brand Electrolux has been demonstrating their sense of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by supporting ovarian cancer for the month of September. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and to help raise funds to combat this disease “Electrolux is donating two-hundred dollars to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund for every washer/dryer pair purchased.”

The $200 donation is not the only program that Electrolux is sponsoring this month. The brand’s spokesperson, talk show host Kelly Ripa, used her talk show Live with Regis and Kelly to announce that she was hosting a virtual sleepover party for Electrolux. For every person that attends the virtual sleepover on Facebook, Electrolux will donate one dollar to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The company has pledged a minimum donation of thirty thousand dollars to a maximum of thirty-five thousand dollars. Those wanting to participate in the virtual sleepover can go to the page daily until October 12th, 2011, and each time one dollar will be donated. When you join the sleepover there are games and tips about hosting a sleepover.

The tie in for Electrolux with the sleepover is the premise that it’s back to school season and thus children will be hosting sleepovers. In order to host a sleepover one needs clean sheets, pajamas etc…and only an Electrolux washer and dryer set is up to the task. Not to mention when one joins the sleepover they are entered into a draw to win a washer and dryer set.

“Electrolux and Kelly Ripa are proud to support Ovarian Cancer Research Fund whose mission is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for Ovarian Cancer. Electrolux has committed to donate $1 million to this worthy cause.”

This is a great way for Electrolux to be involved with this cause. Electrolux gets the publicity from having Ripa involved because of her ability to use her daily platform. Not to mention that they have come up with a fundraising event that highlights their products and allows potential customers to become familiar with the brand. This further elevates their brand amongst female consumers by demonstrating that they are committed to help find an early detection method for female cancers.

Anytime that a brand, especially a luxury brand, can garner good publicity and make a connection with consumers on a personal level, that is just good business.  It’s nice to see a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative supporting such an important cause.

Many companies have corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs; however, few have as many projects that help a wide range of charities as The Patrón Spirits Company does. Yes the makers of premium alcoholic beverages such as Patrón Tequila, Pyrat Rum, and Ultimat Vodka, are reaching out to the community and trying to make the world a better place.

At their core the company “believes in giving back and being sustainable. This is exemplified by only making Patrón bottles out of recycled glass and being involved in charities such as St. Bernard Project, Action Against Hunger, and Water Keeper Alliance.” The St. Bernard Project is a program that Patrón assists to help raise funds for the heavily affected area of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. This area has been deeply affected by the hurricanes that have ravaged the Golf Coast in recent years.

In addition to funding “teams of Patrón Spirits employees regularly donate their time to help rebuild homes in this community.” The fact that they also they also get their employees to volunteer demonstrates the strong corporate environment they are fostering. Patrón also assists the “Hand in Hand for Haiti project. The project’s goal is to build a hurricane-proof, anti-seismic, sustainable school complex that will offer accessible education from pre-school to secondary school, in Saint-Marc, Haiti, an area of great need.”

Patrón is doing more than just helping areas affected by natural disasters. “Through their global fundraising efforts on behalf of The Smile Train, they have enabled over a thousand cleft lip and palate surgeries for children across the world — giving them the opportunity for a new life.” “Ultimat, the ultra-premium vodka produced by Patrón Spirits, proudly supports the efforts of Action Against Hunger, a global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger. Through fundraising events and the sale of custom-created “I’m Tired of Hunger” bracelets and t-shirts, Ultimat vodka is deeply committed to raising awareness and funding for this very important cause.” Additionally, The Patrón Spirits Company also supports the Waterkeeper Alliance and Malaria No More, Miles To End Malaria.

On their webpage patronspirits.com you can watch videos and find out more about each program.  There are links if you are interested in making a personal donation to any of these important causes. The Patrón Spirits Company recognizes that they provide a luxury product, and in these tough economic times, those who are able to afford these products may not be willing to pay such high prices. What makes the Patrón Spirits Company stand apart from their competitors is their commitment to making the world, and the environment a better place through extensive corporate social responsibility initiatives.  We like to believe that in the age of the conscious consumer, people want to support companies that make a difference and stand for something. As you can see The Patrón Spirits Company has certainly exemplified being a socially responsible company.
