3 Simple Tips For The Eco Friendly Pet

im000043I just got a new puppy and I was thinking about ways to go green with his training and daily living.  It is possible to raise your pet with an eco-friendly approach and here are 3 simple tips to start getting your pet going green:

1) Start with an organic dog food.  Most pet food suppliers offer an organic product that doesn’t include animal by-products like some of the high profile grocery store brands.  Yes, it’s a bit more expensive, but I don’t want my dog eating chicken feet, undeveloped eggs, or animal heads which are standard meat by products found in tons of different dog foods.  Check the ingredients of your dog’s food and if you see animal or meat by product, your pet could be eating a carcass, head, foot or any animal ‘leftovers’ which contains very little actual meat.

2) Clean up the puppy messes with a natural cleaning product.  I created a natural all purpose cleaner with vinegar, water and a little essential oil from Planet Forward’s MIY Green Home Cleaning Kit and it quickly cleans up any ‘accident’ my puppy has.  My puppy likes to explore and lick things so I’m much more comfortable with an all natural solution that is chemical-free.  Pets have fragile stomachs and exposing them to toxins found in conventional cleaners can be dangerous.

3) Use organic grooming products.  In addition to pet food, there are many organic grooming solutions that still allow your pet to go green without the use of chemicals.   If you want a minimal cost dog shampoo try sprinkling a little baking soda onto your dog’s coat and rub it in with your hands. Then, give them a good brushing and you’ll notice your dog’s coat is clean, shiny and odour-free.  Find 3 more make-it-yourself dog shampoo recipes here.
