Greener Lifestyles And Motorola Renew
By The EcolectualRenew – A Step Back To Greener Lifestyles
Motorola Renew: is it a good fit for those living greener lifestyles? Cell phones have always been a fairly disposable item. Though there are companies that recycle them, that is as far as the industry has gone. Well Motorola has heard the call of those wanting to live greener lifestyles and developed an ecofriendly alternative to the traditional cell phone. The question remains is this phone worth the change?
The Renew by Motorola is a new product, which claims to be geared to those interested in ecofriendly living. This ecofriendly alternative phone’s case and packaging are both recyclable and are duly marked as such with international symbols. Motorola seems to not only understand that many consumers are living greener lifestyles but also the importance of corporate social responsibility. More and more companies understand that consumers are holding them to higher standards as they embrace ecofriendly living and push for ecofriendly alternatives.
According to Motorola, the Renew is designed and manufactured with either very little to no harmful chemicals. Another aspect of the importance of corporate social responsibility that Motorola understands is that the recycling of batteries is not enough; thus they envisioned a comprehensive recycling plan online. They also removed harmful chemicals from the battery itself. This phone is geared to those who are living greener lifestyles, the phone’s charger has been made energy efficient and the phone has energy saving settings. One major reason why the Renew is an ecofriendly alternative for those living greener lifestyles, is because Motorola estimates the recyclability of the phone at 65% or greater.
The company seems committed to the importance of corporate social responsibility as they regularly publish environmental reports and hold both their subcontractors and suppliers to their environmental requirements. However, this ecofriendly alternative does have a few drawbacks such as a lack of features that are commonplace among many phones.
Though Motorola seems to embrace and even stress the importance of corporate social responsibility, they have done so while sacrificing popular features such as a camera. The Renew is also, an MP3 player and with the many energy saving features in the phone and charger, this might be an ecofriendly alternative to popular MP3 players for those living greener lifestyles. The renew may allow you to send multimedia messages; however, it is not equipped with Bluetooth technology. The phone is compatible with 2.5mm headsets but not a Bluetooth, this might be cause for concern for those who have mobile offices or live in cities which prohibit the use of cell phone while driving unless using a hands free device. Those incorporating ecofriendly living into their lives might be disappointed to know that the phone does not have speaker phone, once again limiting the hands free capabilities of the Renew.
Does this mean that you have to sacrifice ecofriendly living for the feature you have become accustomed to and rely on? The best answer is that the jury is still out and the same rules apply when buying any cell phone to know the features you absolutely MUST have. Thus, you have to ask yourself is your Bluetooth your life line? And do you love taking pictures? If so then this phone is not for you. However, if you like texting and using your phone as an MP3 player this is an ecofriendly alternative that is comparable to what you have. Thus, the answer is to weigh your options carefully keeping in mind that if this model is popular then other ecofreindly options might come down the pike. In the end, it is not always possible to reduce your footprint while maintaining your current lifestyle, but that is something we all grapple with in the quest towards greener lifestyles.
