The Green MacGyver – An Eco Friendly Craft for Kids: the Egg carton Caterpillar
When thinking about a project to keep little ones occupied in the remaining weeks of summer it is a bonus to find an eco friendly kids craft project. When undertaking such a project is it best to keep things simple, so everything in their craft can be found around the house. Keeping that in mind I decided to bring you a classic ecofriendly children’s craft. It’s an oldie but a goodie but you just may have forgotten about it. The last time you saw it might have been kindergarten.
What you need
- Old clean egg carton
- Scissors
- Paint or crayons
- Pipe cleaners
- Glue
Steps:
- Cut the top portion of the egg carton off and recycle
- Cut the bottom section in two length wise, running in between the cups
- Glue the two sections together or not it depends on the length you want you caterpillar to be
- Paint or color the caterpillar
- Glue pipe cleaners to the top of the head of the caterpillar for antenna
This is a simple eco friendly kids art project because everything you need can be easily found in your home. A fun addition to this project would be to read the classic children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar before doing this craft. The book, for those that don’t know, is the story of how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. This is an easy way to make an afternoon of a simple eco friendly kids craft and encourage learning and creativity. Upon completing the craft it is always fun to act out the book with your brand new egg carton caterpillar. A creative, imaginative, resourceful and participative ecofriendly kids craft for whatever the weather.
