Making changes to your daily lifestyle takes some understanding of what is at stake and how much of a difference we can all make. This glossary can help you engage and in and be more aware of  sustainable practices. Knowledge is power and power can change things especially when its multiplied.

We’ve spit our Ecopedia into seven sections to ease your navigation as follows (part one is beneath)

PART 2 – Biodiversity to BPA

PART 3 – Carbon Offsets to Climate Change

PART 4 – CO2 to Corporate Responsibility

PART 5 – Degradable to Global Warming

PART 6 – Greenhouse Gas to Landfills

PART 7 – Low Flow Fixtures to Paper

Alternative Fuels
Alternative fuels are substitutes for conventional fuels like petroleum and coal. Alternative fuels include, but are not limited to, ethanol, biodiesel, and fuel cells. Alternative fuels are critical in the quest for renewable and efficient energy. Some, such as ethanol and biodiesel, are manufactured from renewable sources like corn, while fuel cells and others use chemically stored electricity. Often, alternative fuels are more efficient and generate less pollution than conventional fuels. As petroleum supplies continue to deplete, alternative fuels will become essential in powering everything from homes to cars. Many car manufacturers offer hybrid electric and diesel-biodiesel powered vehicles, a sustainable practice which needs to grow.

Biodegradable
Biodegradable means something that is capable of being broken down (decomposed) rapidly by the action of microorganisms. Biodegradable substances include food scraps, cotton, wool, wood, human and animal waste, manufactured products based on natural materials (such as paper, and vegetable-oil based soaps).

Biodiesel
Biodiesel refers to a type of alternative fuel. Biodiesel fuel originates from animal fats and vegetable oils whereas standard diesel fuel is obtained from petroleum. Biodiesel provides better fuel economy and less pollution and carbon dioxide than gasoline; biodiesel is also more energy efficient than ethanol fuel. Biodiesel is considered a possible alternative to gasoline and is being offered at an escalating number of locations. Sustainable solutions like these can greatly impact our future.
