Make Your Water Bottle Reusable

By Tracy

water-bottle-reusableIs your water bottle reusable?  More and more consumers are making greener purchasing decisions by choosing a stainless steel bottle as the eco-friendly alternative to plastic water bottles.

Honestly, I never thought that bottled water would become the commodity it is today.  It’s an industry that is still growing globally and now is in excess of $15 billion.  And soft drink giants like Coke (Dasani) and Pepsi (Aquafina) are the leaders of the pack.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always enjoyed Diet Pepsi or Lime Diet Coke, but water?  At least with Diet Coke there’s some kind of flavour formula behind it.  With water they are just filtering it, packaging, shipping and selling it to you.

Why make your water bottle reusable?  Well, for starters, people have been using stainless steel for years to cook (pots/pans) and eat (cutlery).  Typically you’ll spend under $20 for a 1 litre stainless steel bottle and about $1 (at least) for bottled water.  The average person buys approximately 150 bottles of water per year, so if you’re part of the average, that’s spending of 150 bucks or more on what you can get from the tap at home.  Plus, over 70% of those plastic bottles end up in a landfill.  You don’t need to channel your inner Einstein to do the math here, clearly you and the planet save a lot more by reusing a stainless steel bottle.  Plus, it’s win-win by simultaneously protecting your bank account and the environment.

At Planet Forward we recognized that we had to make your water bottle reusable, high quality, and affordable.  Plus our bottles are BPA (Bisphenol-A)-free, toxin-free, non-leaching, clean-tasting, 100% recyclable, portable and lightweight.   And it’s suitable for any beverage type including acidic varieties.  Personally, whenever I leave my home I fill up my 1L Planet Forward water bottle and put it in a Neoprene bottle bag and go.

Some people swear by bottled water and just say it tastes better.  To each his own I guess.  All I’m asking is to just consider making your water bottle reusable instead.  If you love your bottled water and it’s too big of a sacrifice, so be it.  But if you’re looking for simple changes towards a greener lifestyle, this one’s easy.

My whole family is now using reusable stainless bottles after I read that the SIGG bottles we have been using apparently contained BPA. I do hope that water bottlers find a system to simply use stainless steel bottles as their default packaging. Maybe they could offer an incentive for consumers who choose to use their own stainless steel bottles for refills, just like they do at coffee shops.
