Eco Friendly Television Shows Fred Is The Greenest

By Angela

Eco Friendly Television Is Pronounced Yabba Dabba Doo!flintstones

When it comes to eco friendly television shows, I don’t think anything can come close to the original green family – The Flinstones.  I recently saw an ad for the newly released DVD that proclaimed “Curious George Goes Green” and it got me thinking: 1) I really didn’t think George’s footprint was all that offensive and 2) the Flintstone’s have always been green.  They are truly the first eco friendly television family. Sorry Ed  Begley  Jr.

I mean, the Prius may be considered the prized jewel in the eco friendly car crown but how can it even compete with Fred’s feet?  “Let’s ride with the family down the street.  Through the courtesy of Fred’s two feet.”   Zero carbon emissions there.   Flintstone’s 1 – Toyota 0 .  We can break it down even futher:

  • Wilma’s dishwasher was a woolly mammoth, whose nozzle-like trunk was quite effective at getting off that stubborn grease plus it acted as a shower by spraying water with its trunk (not excessive and no hot water tank).
  • Remember the elevators being raised and lowered by ropes around brontosaurs’ necks?
  • Monkeys used to power their “automatic” windows and birds as “car horns” activated by pulling on their tails
  • Their vacuum cleaner was a baby woolly mammoth
  • I think we’ve all seen Fred catch the bumble bee in the clam shell to give himself a good shave.

I’m not sure what PETA would say but kudos on the zero emissions.  I think Fred needs to get himself a new PR person.  Start promoting his greenness.  If Curious George can do it, so can Fred.

The modern stone-age family has certainly left their bare footprint significantly in television, movies, merchandising, and even vitamins.  I’m happy to report it’s been a carbon free one.
