Adrian Grenier Grows An Ecofriendly Garden

By The Ecolectual

Adrian Grenier:  an ecofriendly  lifestyle in Hollywood

adrian-grenier2Hot on the heels of Kelly Ripa’s garden confession, another surprising celebrity gardener has come out of the gardening closet.  Adrian Grenier, star of HBO’s Entourage and the show Alter Eco, has taken living a greener lifestyle to another level and has recently discovered the joys of having an ecofriendly garden.

Grenier is espousing the joys of having an ecofriendly garden on the talk show circuit as he promotes the sixth season of his Emmy award winning HBO show. Grenier grows crops like squash, tomatoes and corn in his California garden, which he refers to as victory garden. Victory garden is an old term from the WWI & II era war effort that encouraged private gardens as means of sustenance.

Since he is a fellow gardener I guess I can cut him some slack for his character Vince (and his crew) not living an ecofriendly lifestyle on the show Entourage.  Of the conflict between his personal and professional life he said “It’s a constant struggle, it’s about habits. We are habitual creatures and people don’t always want to change. They only want to do what they know,” Grenier told FOX News at the Salvatore Ferragamo soiree in Beverly Hills in support of Global Giving’s Italy Earthquake Recovery and Relief Fund. “At one point, we wanted to use all bio-diesel generators on-set, but its just not viable as the technology isn’t up to par. So what we did was just replace one generator. It’s a slow process of transformation.” As a viewer, I would like to see a new green side to the boys on Entourage but I’ll settle for their stars doing their best to spread the eco-word when they can.

But why exactly did Grenier decide to garden? He says it is “the fact that the Obama’s put a garden [in] at the White House is not only a symbolic gesture, but it’s also a very tangibly successful one. I just put in a garden myself, I was inspired”. In fact it was First Lady Michelle Obama, who planted an ecofriendly organic garden at the White House.  She planted this garden to teach kids about growing food, and to bring attention to eating organic locally grown produce.

Kudos to all those who shine a light on the joys of having an ecofriendly garden and it’s benefits. It seems that everyone from Hollywood stars to everyday people are seeing the benefits of gardening of late, and it is becoming one of the hottest summer activities. The recent celebrity endorsements only help the cause and encourage people to grow their own and eat local.  For an ecofriendly lifestyles, keep on gardening!
